Our stay can only be described as idyllic. The Ice House is a very special destination, providing great comfort but, more importantly, spectacular views eastwards across Gruinard Bay, with the sea only feet away. If peace and an escape from the business and frustrations of modern life are what you need, then you will find it here, where you are so close to nature (otters, eagles, ospreys to name the rarer species only) and beautiful scenery. A fabulous week.

What a stunning property in a fabulous spot! We spent a wonderful , relaxing week just soaking it all in. The scenery changes by the hour with the tides and the weather -it was captivating. Many a happy hour was spent on otter watch (we had long visits on 4 of the days which was amazing). Laide and Aultbea stores served us very well. Highly recommend the walk to Slaggan Bay and Mellon Udrigle beach is picture perfect for a sit or a stroll or a dip!. The house had everything we needed and was spotlessly clean. James was super helpful and we would most definitely stay again.

We loved our stay at the Icehouse. There is a real wow factor as you walk in and there is a magnificent picture window looking out onto the Loch. Within an hour of arriving we saw a sea otter eating a fish. The ice house is very comfortable and the kitchen fully equipped with everything you need. We especially loved the history of James’ long association with the icehouse and his fishing exploits with three wonderful sounding Crofters. He has lovingly restored the Icehouse as the most special holiday destination.

What a beautiful house in a beautiful location. Regardless of the weather (we had some amazing weather and some awful weather), the views from the house are stunning, dramatic and beautiful. The house has everything you need for your stay and is finished to a high standard. Lots of wildlife to see out the front, amongst lots of birds we also saw seals and were rewarded with a sea otter fishing in front of the house one morning, stunning. Can not recommend this house highly enough.

Such an incredible place. We spent a wonderful week here and it would be easy never to leave the house and just sit on the deck or the wonderful window seat. The property was so comfortable and well equipped and the nearby Laide Post office is extremely well stocked so we didn't want for anything. We did tear ourselves away a few times to visit some amazing beaches, explore the beautiful gardens of Inverewe and the two very good museums about the Arctic Convoys and Naval HQ in WW2. James, the owner, also communicated everything really well and kept in touch. If you are looking for nightlife and pubs, this isn't the place for you but if you crave peace, tranquility and rest, the Ice House is the perfect place. We can't recommend highly enough and really hope to go back.

We loved the Ice House. Everything about it. It felt like a proper escape. It really is a magical place in the most incredible location. Felt at home straight away too which is always a good sign. It has everything you could need, the bed was really comfy, and the views, whatever the weather, are out of this world. A very special place that you feel lucky & grateful to hide-out in. We'd give it 6 stars if we could!

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Ice House, it was everything we hoped for and more. From watching wildlife and ever-changing weather through the huge windows to standing on the decking in awe of the countless stars, the experience was truly magical. We loved listening to the waves crashing on the rocks at night and exploring the snowy hills by day, it felt like a little slice of wilderness heaven. The accommodation itself is exceptional. The floor-to-ceiling windows bring the outside in, with a perfect window bench for soaking up the views. The wood burner made the whole space feel cosy and warm, and the kitchen is one of the best-equipped we’ve ever come across in a rental cottage. As we love to cook, and it had everything we needed. Waking up to breathtaking views from the bedroom and watching the weather roll in with a cup of tea in bed was a daily joy. The location is ideal for hiking and exploring beautiful beaches, and James and the team couldn’t have been more helpful. Being on hand with thoughtful advice and guidance to make our stay smooth and special. We’re already dreaming about returning!

Quite possibly the best place we have stayed! The view as you walk into the living area is breath taking and you find you spend so much time just looking out the window observing the changing landscapes. The property was exceptionally clean and comfortable, and everything you needed was provided. We were privileged to stay there and would definitely look to return to explore more of the local area.
